Energy Star Homes

Newly constructed or rehabilitated homes and multi-family dwellings that meet the EPA’s energy-efficiency performance guidelines can be Energy Star® certified. The benefits of Energy Star® certification include:

  • Lower energy costs
  • Greater comfort and air quality in the home
  • Reduced carbon footprint
  • Increased resale value
  • Tax credits for Energy Star builders when the home exceeds the basic Energy Star® level

To certify that a home meets the EPA guidelines, it must be evaluated by an accredited Home Energy Rating Systems (HERS) rater and must score 80 points or below on the national HERS Index. Such homes usually include a variety of efficiency features, such as effective insulation, high-performance windows, tight building-shell construction and ducts, high-performance heating and cooling equipment, and Energy Star® certified lighting and appliances.
Horizon Residential is a nationally accredited third-party HERS rater. We work hand in glove with owners and builders throughout the building and certification process to help make sure your project stays on track and meets all Energy Star performance goals.
